DepEd Region VIII Welcomes New Regional Director Ronelo Al K. Firmo

A proud son of Eastern Visayas brings transformative vision anchored on “Region 8 is GREAT” slogan

Tacloban City, Philippines — The Department of Education Regional Office VIII officially welcomes its new OIC- Regional Director, Ronelo Al K. Firmo, a native of Eastern Visayas known for his transformative leadership, inspiring presence, and steadfast commitment to educational excellence.

Director Firmo, who has built an impressive track record in various leadership roles within the Department of Education, now takes the helm of DepEd Region VIII with a strong sense of purpose and a clear plan for progress.

His policy directions align with the 5-Point Agenda of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and will be carried out through the guiding vision: “Region 8 is GREAT.”

The slogan GREAT encapsulates the priorities of the new leadership:

G – Governance (Serbisyong Mabilis, Maayos at Matapat ay Ialay Lagi sa Edukasyon – SMILE): Ensuring fast, efficient, and honest public service for education stakeholders.

R – Resilience and Well-Being of Teachers and Learners and Resource Generation and Partnership: Promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being, while forging partnerships and mobilizing resources to strengthen education programs.

E – Educational Outcomes, Enabling Learning Environment, and Employability of SHS Graduates: Improving learning performance, fostering safe and inclusive schools, and equipping Senior High School graduates with skills for work or entrepreneurship.

A – Accountability: Upholding transparency and responsibility in all education programs and services.

T – Technological Advancement and Teachers’ Welfare: Harnessing digital innovations for education and prioritizing the professional growth and well-being of teachers.

“I am deeply honored to return to my home region to serve our learners, teachers, and communities,” Director Firmo said. “Eastern Visayas has great potential. With strong governance, collaborative partnerships, and a united commitment to quality education, we will make Region 8 truly GREAT.”

Under Director Firmo’s leadership, DepEd Region VIII is poised to strengthen governance systems, champion learner-centered initiatives, and build a more resilient, future-ready education community. His vision is to ensure that every learner in Eastern Visayas is not only equipped with knowledge but also empowered with the values, skills, and opportunities to succeed.
